8 Ways to Shine Through the War on Christmas
Dec 14, 2022
The war on Christmas…
Really, there's always a war in spiritual things.
It has existed since the garden of Eden when Satan twisted God's words to encourage the humans to act out of selfish desire and pride.
As Ambassadors for Christ, we need to think about what’s really going on with Christmas and how we want to approach it, instead of just being caught up in the wave of busyness and celebration till we wake up and it’s January already.
My recommendation to approach this battle of CHRISTmas?
1) Realize the spiritual war is REAL, and we’re all in it automatically. (You might find this article interesting by Liberty Council - https://lc.org/newsroom/details/120922-communism-and-christmas)
2) Don’t be ignorant of Satan's devices. (2 Cor. 2:11). Be aware that the distractions this time of year are intended to pull people away from the truth of Jesus birth and eternal hope of trusting in his gift of salvation. The enemy’s efforts are to mask the depth of the meaning of Christmas with a false, superficial, feel-good, jolly replacement.
3) Decide which side you’re on. Now, that sounds a little harsh, but obvious nonetheless. The commercial worldly influence has been so successful at dumbing down Christmas by REPLACING it with Santa, gift-giving, good-feelings like love & joy, and hopeful things like peace and fresh-start of the new year coming. So, you get to decide what elements of Christmas are important to you and your family, what your non-negotiable are. Sometimes the clarity comes when you ask yourself “what do we want to be known for?” or “What is the legacy I’m leaving with my words, displays, and actions?”
4) Teach your children. A significant part of the war on Christmas is for the hearts of our kids. What the kids believe, the culture becomes. Keep them involved. Participate in church functions and programs. Help them GIVE to others, not just get, get, get. Challenge and grow their intellect and encourage them verbally speak what they believe. Ask “Do you know WHY we give gifts at Christmas?” Memorize scripture with them at the dinner table. Decide if you want to celebrate Santa or not in your home, and be convinced of your WHY behind that decision. Our silence on any matter will be filled with answers from a non-Christian culture.
5) Be loving and giving. When you name the name of Christ and live for Him, you want to be generous toward others. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35. Loving and giving doesn’t have to break the bank, by the way. Cards and words of encouragement. Small plate of baked goodies. Friendly texts. A smile. Those gifts show love and are practically free.
6) Use Ambassador tools to show your loyalty to Jesus and His coming Kingdom. Tools like gospel tracts, Christmas cards that celebrate God, music that praises His name. Home decor and clothes that displays what you believe.
7) Center yourself through God’s word daily. Refocus and nourish your spiritual life through the scriptures and private prayer. Put on the whole armor of God with intention, which reminds us that we are actually in a war, whether we like it or not.
8) Give grace - to yourself and others. Don’t be judgmental, but speak the truth in love when given opportunity.
I’m praying for you - In love, and joy, and peace, and truth, celebrating Christmas as the birth of Jesus, the reason for our eternal hope. I realize that some Christians rebuke the celebrations around Dec. 25 as having pagan history, but I am also confident that our family has decided to continue celebrating at this time since we can point to Jesus and that is the true reason for the season. 🙌🏼
Joyfully,
